Handmade Brass Byzantine Chain Necklace

This handmade brass Byzantine chain necklace is crafted entirely by hand from bare brass wire. I coil and assemble each individual link using the traditional Byzantine weave, which creates a chain that feels strong, flexible, and comfortable to wear.

First, I form the chain link by link, carefully shaping and connecting the brass wire. Because of this technique, the necklace has both durability and fluid movement. The warm tone of bare brass gives the chain a classic look that naturally deepens with wear over time.

The necklace measures 24 inches in length, making it ideal for everyday wear or layering. In addition, the weight and structure of the Byzantine weave allow it to support a wide range of pendants without losing its shape.

At the center of the design, I create a unique handwoven bale clasp from bare brass wire. I shape the bale into a subtle V form and add a small hook-style closure inspired by a safety pin. As a result, you can attach any pendant securely without worrying about it slipping off or falling away.

Because the clasp is woven by hand, it becomes a visible and decorative part of the necklace rather than a hidden mechanism. This design allows you to wear the chain on its own or change pendants easily, giving you flexibility and peace of mind.

Finally, I finish the necklace by hand to highlight the natural texture of the brass wire. Since I make each piece individually, no two necklaces are exactly alike. This ensures that every chain is truly one of a kind.
